The University of California (UCLA) and the Port of Los Angeles formalized their shared commitment to sustainability and community well-being by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) during the South Bay Summit on 15 November.
The summit, held at the UCLA South Bay campus in Rancho Palos Verdes, was organized by the Los Angeles-based green tech firm Adept Group, Inc., with workshop facilitation provided by the Los Angeles Regional Collaborative for Climate Action and Sustainability.
The agreement between the port and the university emphasizes collaboration with local neighborhoods, including San Pedro and Wilmington, fostering new opportunities for education, research, and workforce development. These initiatives will align with the Port’s adoption of advanced maritime innovations, clean technologies, supply-chain strategies, and ocean science advancements.
The MoU builds on existing collaborations that have yielded results, such as the partnership between UCLA Samueli School of Engineering researchers with the Port to test innovative carbon dioxide removal technologies.
