Port of Los Angeles appoints new Human Resources Director

The Port of Los Angeles has appointed Melanie Roberts as its new Human Resources Director. She will oversee employment operations for nearly 1,000 Port employees.

Roberts has built her career within the City of Los Angeles since 2008. Most recently, she served as Senior Personnel Analyst II with the Personnel Department, where she also worked as liaison to LA Sanitation & Environment. Earlier roles included positions at Los Angeles World Airports, the Bureau of Contract Administration, and the Bureau of Street Services.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from California State Dominguez Hills and a master’s in organizational management from the University of Phoenix.

Erica Calhoun, Deputy Executive Director of Finance and Administration at the Port, welcomed Roberts to the role. “She brings a wealth of City experience and a proven record of results,” Calhoun said. “That will be key in leading human resources for the busiest container port in the U.S.”
