The Administration of the Lázaro Cárdenas National Port System has formalised a Partial Assignment of Rights Contract with Porter Lázaro Cárdenas SA de CV for the development of a new Multi-Purpose Terminal IV within the port area.
The contract, resulting from public tender ASIPONA/LÁZAROCÁRDENAS/TUMIV/01/25, was signed on January 26, 2026 and registered by the General Directorate of Ports on February 26.
The agreement covers the construction, equipping and operation of a public-use multipurpose terminal designed to handle cabotage cargo, mineral bulk and general cargo in high-seas traffic.
Containerised cargo operations are explicitly excluded from the terminal’s scope.
The development forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen port infrastructure and expand operational capacity at Lázaro Cárdenas, consolidating the port’s position as a strategic logistics hub for both national and international maritime trade.
The award follows the port’s strong January 2026 performance, in which mineral cargo accounted for 25% of total throughput, underscoring the commercial rationale for dedicated bulk and general cargo handling capacity.
