Port of LA approaches 10M TEUs in 2025

Port of Los Angeles

The Port of Los Angeles handled 848,431 TEUs in October, delivering a solid result despite ongoing trade volatility. Through the first 10 months of 2025, the Port processed 8,655,489 TEUs, up 2% year on year.

“With six weeks to go, we are within reach of the 10 million container unit mark,” said Executive Director Gene Seroka. “If achieved, it would be the third time in our history—and a first for any port in the Western Hemisphere.” Seroka credited the waterfront workforce and terminal operators for keeping operations safe and efficient.

Seroka expects softer volumes in November and December. Last year’s late-season numbers were inflated as shippers imported goods early to hedge against tariffs. With retail and manufacturing inventories now well stocked, fewer replenishment orders are necessary.

October 2025 figures:

  • Loaded imports: 429,283 TEUs (–7% Y/Y)

  • Loaded exports: 123,768 TEUs (+1% Y/Y)

  • Empties: 295,380 TEUs (–8% Y/Y).
