The Port of Hueneme has wrapped up its annual Coastal Trident Security Exercise. This year’s focus was on drones and their role in maritime security.
The two-day event gathered port tenants, vessel operators, labor groups, business leaders, technology firms, Naval Base Ventura County, and more than twenty public safety agencies.
On the first day, teams tested how a higher Maritime Security (MARSEC) level would affect operations. The scenario involved drones used for surveillance and attacks on ships and infrastructure.
The second day featured hands-on training. Participants explored Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) tools and capabilities.
“We must be ready for anything,” said Jess J. Ramirez, President of the Oxnard Harbor District. “These drills protect our cargo, infrastructure, and community.”
Mike Morrison, Director of Operations, praised the teamwork between industry, tech developers, and emergency services. “It takes a village to ensure safety,” he said.
Agencies exchanged knowledge and discussed the future of unmanned systems in security and emergency response.
CEO Kristin Decas noted that drones are becoming more accessible and advanced. “Identifying vulnerabilities and testing strategies is more important than ever,” she said.
Coastal Trident remains a hub for innovation and a key part of keeping the Port of Hueneme secure and resilient.
