The Port of Hartlepool has commissioned a Sennebogen 875M materials handler representing an investment of £2 million, strengthening the port’s operational versatility across a wide range of cargo types.
The mobile asset is equipped with interchangeable grab attachments enabling it to handle breakbulk cargo, steel products, renewable energy materials including bales and pellets, and dry bulks such as talc and rutile sand.
The machine’s advanced hydraulics and precision control systems allow it to manage challenging loads with accuracy, and its mobility enables deployment across the full extent of the port site, from the quayside to the back reaches and storage areas.
Among its current applications is the export of Solid Recovered Fuel bales, a processed material derived from non-recyclable commercial, industrial and household waste including plastics, paper, cardboard and textiles, which is shredded, dried and compacted into dense bales for use in waste-to-energy power plants.
The investment reinforces Hartlepool’s positioning as a hub for both renewables and bulk cargo handling, complementing its established role as a frontier port for the offshore industry with direct, lock-free access to the North Sea.
The port offers up to 180 acres of surrounding landbank available for development, supported by skilled dock operatives, warehousing facilities, in-house transport services and multimodal onward connectivity by road, rail and sea.
