Port of Hamburg Marketing has officially incorporated a new representative office in Dubai into its international network, marking a strategic consolidation of the port’s engagement with one of the world’s most active trade corridors.
Operating under the designation Hamburg Representative Office UAE and Gulf Region, the office has been active since January 2026 and is supported by several institutional partners.
The Gulf region occupies a central position in global trade flows connecting Europe, Asia and Africa, and is acquiring additional relevance as a future hub for renewable energy sources and evolving supply chain structures.
This dual commercial and strategic significance underpins Hamburg’s decision to formalise its presence there.
Trade volumes between Hamburg and the UAE, Red Sea and Gulf region reflect the corridor’s growth trajectory. Container traffic across this route rose by 28.8% to approximately 130,000 TEU in the first nine months of 2025 compared with the same period a year earlier.
With the UAE specifically, Hamburg held a market share of nearly 80% among German seaports in direct container traffic during the 2024 calendar year.
The office is headed by Kirsten Staab, who has been active in the region for over 25 years and has led Hamburg’s representative presence there since 2008.
Staab highlighted the growing importance of blue and green hydrogen and their derivatives as future energy imports for Germany, positioning the Port of Hamburg as a prospective hydrogen import hub and a key partner for Gulf-based producers and exporters.
