Port of Great Yarmouth announces expansion

The Port of Great Yarmouth is moving forward with an expansion of its Southern Terminal at the Outer Harbour, responding to rising demand from developers and construction firms engaged in major onshore and offshore infrastructure projects.

The planned development includes the construction of an additional 350 metres of quay, a Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) ramp, a heavy lift pad, and approximately 10 hectares of reinforced open storage space.

These enhancements are designed to significantly boost the port’s capacity to handle large-scale cargo and specialist equipment for complex projects.

Strategically located on the UK’s east coast, Great Yarmouth boasts one of the deepest non-tidally restricted facilities in the region.

Its existing terminals already serve a broad range of infrastructure customers, including key projects such as the Sizewell C nuclear power station and multiple offshore energy developments in the southern North Sea.

Richard Goffin, Port Director at Great Yarmouth, commented that this expansion will allow them to further the mission of becoming a central player in the UK’s infrastructure future contributing positively to both the regional and national economy.

The port’s operator, Peel Ports Group, is actively working toward securing planning consent for the project and anticipates approval by early 2026.
