Port of Gothenburg reports record-breaking container volumes

The Port of Gothenburg has marked its busiest November handling volumes of 74,250 TEU. Last month’s volumes contributed to a year-on-year increase of 7% in container volumes since the start of the year, which is the highest figure since 2015.

The majority of the Swedish port’s volumes were handled in the APM Terminals – operated Gothenburg container terminal, according to a statement.

“As the end of 2021 is approaching and with the pandemic still in effect, the Port of Gothenburg, together with freight hub partners, has managed to remain open throughout, and with systems in place to ensure the volume of freight passing through the port can be increased sustainably,” stated a port official.

Regarding the future, Gothenburg Port Authority chief executive, Elvir Dzanic, remains optimistic despite several hardships such as disruptions due to pandemic, a shortage of containers, falling vessel capacity, and the ongoing impact of Brexit.
