The Port of Gothenburg has completed the acquisition of a significant land area in the port’s outer zones through an agreement signed with seller Platzer, securing the conditions for the next phase of the port’s long-term development strategy.
The acquisition comprises land, office properties and water areas, creating future potential for up to 210,000 square metres of new terminal space.
The overall deal also incorporates the sale of a logistics property at the port entrance, with the net cost representing the balance between the purchase and sale components of the transaction.
Göran Eriksson, CEO of the Port of Gothenburg, described the acquisition as a natural step in the port’s continued growth, directly adjacent to existing port operations and the surrounding logistics infrastructure.
He framed it as part of a long-term development plan that the port has been executing incrementally for decades.
The transaction follows a westward expansion trajectory that has characterised the port’s physical development since the 1970s, when the Älvsborg RoRo terminal was established. That progression continued with the Arendal 2 project, which added 144,000 square metres of terminal space.
The newly acquired land sits directly adjacent to the area where Stena Line’s new ferry terminal is currently under construction, with completion planned for 2031.
The Gothenburg region has been recognised as the leading logistics location in the Nordic countries, and the acquisition further strengthens the port’s capacity to support industrial establishment and commercial growth in the region.
