Port of Gdańsk and DORACO sign agreement to reconstruct Wiślane Quay

The Port of Gdańsk Authority and Korporacja Budowlana DORACO signed a major investment agreement at the Port’s headquarters.

The project involves the comprehensive reconstruction of Wiślane Quay one of the Inner Port’s most strategic infrastructure upgrades. Valued at PLN 351 million gross, the works are scheduled for completion by the second quarter of 2028.

The agreement was formally signed by Dorota Pyć, President of the Port of Gdańsk, and Alan Aleksandrowicz, Vice-President for Finance and Security. Representing DORACO were President Angelika Cieślawska and Vice-President Jacek Kamiński.

Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Arkadiusz Marchewka, present at the signing, emphasized the importance of the investment and expressed that he’s optimistic that there will be tangible progress and an increase in cargo volumes at the Port of Gdańsk, especially given the promising container handling data from the first half of the year.

The reconstruction project aims to significantly boost the port’s cargo handling capacity, modernize road, rail, and utility infrastructure, and ensure the port is equipped to handle ships with a deadweight of up to 100,000 tonnes and a draught of 10.6 metres.

The investment is divided into three main tasks:

The first phase, beginning July 2025, involves extending the Wiślane quay by approximately 920 meters, deepening the seabed to 12.0 meters, and upgrading the structure to support modern port equipment, including mobile cranes.

There will be also a modernization of road-rail Infrastructure for Sugar Terminal. This part includes constructing a multifunctional terminal to handle sugar transported in containers by rail, with facilities for storage, packaging, and loading onto ships.

Also, at the intersection of Chodackiego, Handlowa, and Starowiślna Streets, a new manoeuvring and parking area will be built. The roads will be upgraded to accommodate heavy port traffic, and a new port guardhouse will be constructed. The gas network will be modernized, and a final traffic management plan will be implemented.

DORACO has committed to carrying out the works in stages to ensure cargo handling and storage operations remain uninterrupted throughout the project.

During the preparation phase, the site will be scanned for ferromagnetic objects and unexploded ordnance from WWII to ensure safety. All works will be conducted under archaeological and environmental oversight, complying with the highest ecological standards.
