Port of Corpus Christi appoints new CEO

The Port of Corpus Christi Commission agreed in a special meeting on 6 September to advance chief financial officer Kent Britton to the post of full-time chief executive officer, following a rigorous three-month search that included applicants from around the country and industry.

Since 1 June 2023, Britton has served as interim CEO.

Britton previously served as chief financial officer for the Glencore-owned Sherwin Alumina Company before joining the Port of Corpus Christi in 2017.

“The Port of Corpus Christi is an incredible asset to the Coastal Bend region, and I am honoured to continue its stewardship with the support of our world-class leadership team,” stated Kent Britton.

Over more than 30 years in accounting and finance, he perfected his collaborative leadership style, including senior roles at Alcoa, the world’s most integrated aluminium corporation, and Blackbaud, Inc., a software supplier to non-profit organisations.

Britton was appointed as the Port of Corpus Christi’s chief financial officer in 2019. During his tenure, Britton was part of a team that led the US port to set tonnage records for five consecutive years and obtained government funds to move the Corpus Christi Ship Channel Improvement Project forward.

Britton has formally taken over his duties as full-time CEO of the Port of Corpus Christi on 6 September.

“Kent Britton has played a key role on a leadership team that guided the Port of Corpus Christi through six transformational years of milestones,” explained Charles W. Zahn, Jr., commission chairman of Port of Corpus Christi.
