Port of Corpus Christi customers achieved a new milestone in the second quarter of 2025, moving 51.1 million tons of commodities through the Corpus Christi Ship Channel.
This volume set a new second-quarter record, surpassing the previous high of 50.6 million tons recorded in Q2 2024.
The momentum continued into the first half of the year, as total cargo throughput reached 102.4 million tons marking the strongest first-half performance in the Port’s history. This surpassed the prior record of 99.5 million tons set in the first half of 2024.
Crude oil remained the dominant cargo, with 65.2 million tons shipped in H1 2025, representing a 3.8% increase year-on-year. Liquefied natural gas volumes also saw robust growth, rising 10.8% to 8.5 million tons.
Additional gains were noted in dry bulk, breakbulk, and other bulk liquid shipments.
Kent Britton, Chief Executive Officer of the Port of Corpus Christi highlighted that the Corpus Christi Ship Channel Improvement Project established this Port as the number one port for crude oil exports.
The recent expansion of the waterway has significantly enhanced the port’s capabilities, allowing for more efficient movement of crude oil, LNG, and other commodities.
The project deepened the main channel from 47 to 54 feet, widened it to 530 feet in most areas, and introduced barge shelves along the longest stretch across Corpus Christi Bay.
These improvements are expected to deliver annual transportation cost savings exceeding $200 million.
