Port of Brisbane inks 10-year lease deal with DSV

Port of Brisbane has finalized a 10-year lease deal with DSV Air & Sea, a global leader in transport and logistics. The agreement entails the construction of a warehouse and container hardstand spanning 48,000 square meters on the Fisherman Islands.

This new facility at Fisherman Islands will serve as a centralized location for DSV, consolidating its Brisbane-based road and sea freight operations.

Port of Brisbane will oversee the development of a purpose-built structure, comprising a 16,008 square meter warehouse, a two-story operations office, and around 26,220 square meters of container-rated hardstand. Additionally, the facility will feature awnings, truck manoeuvring areas, and parking spaces.

“The purpose-built facility combined with this prime location will help DSV to realise significant operational and logistics efficiencies, supporting its operations now and into the future. As large, greenfield industrial sites close to both the Port and the CBD become increasingly harder to find, the Port of Brisbane works closely with existing and new customers to identify these opportunities. Our streamlined Development Application process means we’re able to work collaboratively and move quickly to design and deliver facilities that meet the specific needs of our customers,” stated Neil Stephens, CEO of Port of Brisbane.

In line with sustainability goals, the project will incorporate eco-friendly design elements. These include a 100kW solar panel system, utilization of recycled materials in civil construction, deployment of low-carbon concrete for external pavements, energy-efficient LED lighting fixtures, and implementation of water-saving hydraulic fittings. Moreover, rainwater tanks will be installed for greywater usage.

“Queensland is set to erupt with a variety of infrastructure projects over the next 10 years, from the significant Renewable Energy developments in wind and solar together with the construction and supply of services for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. This new facility will provide DSV with the space and resources needed to service these large-scale projects,” added Paul Thomson, managing director of DSV Air & Sea.

Additionally, McNab has been selected as the Principal Contractor for the project. Construction is set to begin in late March with an expected completion date in late 2024.
