Terminal Puerto Arica S.A. has ordered two Generation 6 mobile harbor cranes from Konecranes to expand its handling capacity in northern Chile.
The order was booked in the first quarter of 2026. The cranes are expected to enter service by January 2027.
The investment strengthens the role of the Port of Arica as a key gateway for cargo flows between Chile, Peru and Bolivia.
The new Konecranes Gottwald ESP.10 cranes will significantly increase the terminal’s ability to handle larger vessels. Each unit offers a 64-metre outreach, enabling operations on container ships of up to 22 rows. The cranes also provide a lifting capacity of 125 tonnes, supporting heavy and bulk cargo operations.
The move continues a long-standing partnership between TPA and Konecranes. The terminal first deployed Konecranes equipment 20 years ago and has since expanded its fleet across multiple generations.
Camilo Jobet, CEO of Terminal Puerto Arica, said the company is focusing on larger vessels while maintaining flexibility across cargo types. He highlighted the reliability of Konecranes equipment and the importance of technical support in fleet development.
The cranes will include long tower extensions to handle larger ships. Operators will be able to switch lifting attachments quickly, including spreaders and bulk handling grabs. Each crane will also feature dual diesel generator sets, allowing flexible and redundant operations.
The investment marks the next step in TPA’s expansion strategy. It also reflects growing demand for larger vessel handling capacity across the region.
