Port of Aarhus sets record container volumes in 2025

The Port of Aarhus strengthened its position as a key Northern European gateway in 2025, recording the highest container volumes in its history.

Despite geopolitical uncertainty and global market challenges, container traffic reached a new peak. A total of 843,665 TEU were handled at the container terminal, operated by APM Terminals, marking an increase of nearly 28% compared to 2024.

“I am pleased with these historic results, achieved by skilled employees in close collaboration with the terminal operator and companies across the port. It shows that Port of Aarhus is an attractive and vital logistics hub, not only for Denmark but also for Europe,” said Kåre Clemmesen, Interim CEO of Port of Aarhus.

Capacity constraints at several major European ports also contributed to the growth, with more containers being rerouted via Aarhus.

“We offer a robust and competitive gateway. This has led to a record number of transit containers, alongside new services and vessels added to our route network,” Clemmesen added.

The strong container performance was reflected in overall cargo volumes. Total throughput reached 11.34 million tonnes in 2025, up almost 14% year-on-year.
