Port of Aarhus sees record 45% jump in container volumes

The Port of Aarhus has smashed multiple records in 2025, with container traffic hitting new all-time highs.

July alone saw volumes surge over 45% year-on-year, from 59,726 TEU to 86,835 TEU. It’s the highest monthly throughput ever for Denmark’s largest commercial port, which handles more than 70% of the nation’s containers.

The first half of the year was already strong, with overall container traffic up more than 13% compared to 2024. Growth has been driven by new shipping routes, shifting global trade patterns, and Aarhus’s growing role as a key hub for container freight into Europe.

Rising volumes have also meant broken weekly records. Week 29 saw 20,212 TEU handled, surpassing the record set earlier this year in Week 22.

“This trend shows our strong route network and our role as a major European hub,” said Thomas Haber Borch, CEO of Port of Aarhus. “The high volumes push our capacity, but thanks to the terminal operator, port companies, and our employees, we deliver efficient, competitive operations that support Danish trade and supply security.”

The increase in containers has brought more ships. In July, 53 container vessels called at the port, 32% more than the same month last year.

From January to July 2025, the port handled 441,670 TEU, up from 372,440 TEU in 2024.
