Port of Los Angeles sets all-time record

The Port of Los Angeles processed 952,554 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) in October 2018, a 27.2 percent increase compared to October 2017. It was the most cargo handled in a single month in the Port’s 111-year history, eclipsing the November 2017 record of 924,225 TEUs.

“During October, two of our container terminals – APM Terminals and Fenix Marine Services, formerly Eagle Marine – processed record container volumes while West Basin Container Terminals and Everport Terminal Services handled the biggest ships to ever call at those facilities,” said Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka. “These robust cargo volumes equate to more jobs in the region and across the nation. We’re committed to doing our part to continue building a strong and skilled workforce for years to come.”

October 2018 imports increased 26.7 percent to 485,824 TEUs compared to the previous year. Exports increased 20.5 percent to 173,824 TEUs, while empty containers increased 25 percent to 292,906 TEUs. Combined, October overall volumes were 952,554 TEUs.

Ten months into 2018, overall volumes have increased 1.1 percent to 7.7 million TEUs compared to 2017 when the Port set an all-time annual cargo record.
