Port Houston breaks container records in June

Port Houston saw a significant uptrend for total container volumes in June, with its loaded imports breaking all-time record, reaching 139,488TEU.

The total box volume for June was 292,627TEU, which shows an increase of 39% in comparison to the previous year, marking the highest June on record for containers at the port.

Meanwhile, more than 1.6 million TEU have been handled in the major Texas port from the start of the year until June, representing a growth of 13% over 2020.

Additionally, total tonnage shows an increase of 7% in June and 2% since the start of the year. At the same time, steel and auto volumes presented a decline in June, however, year-to-date is still positive, with a 3% growth in steel and 44% in autos compared to the previous year.

Aiming for further growth, the port said it focuses on building infrastructure for the Bayport Terminal. “As an operating port, we are here to meet the changing needs of vessels and businesses and continue adding new services and additional capacity to move the world and drive regional prosperity,” stated Roger Guenther, Executive Director at Port Houston.
