Piraeus car terminal welcomes Mitsui O.S.K. Lines

The Port of Piraeus has announced a new cooperation with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines following the inaugural call of the M/V Tourmaline Ace at the Piraeus Car Terminal.

The vessel arrived carrying approximately 1,000 vehicles destined for the Greek market, marking the beginning of a formal operational relationship between MOL and Piraeus Port Authority.

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines operates a fleet of over 95 specialised vehicle carriers, each with a capacity of approximately 5,000 standard-size vehicles, serving global automotive and heavy machinery transport markets.

The Tourmaline Ace represents one of the newest additions to the MOL fleet and exemplifies the company’s next-generation Pure Car and Truck Carrier design.

A defining feature of the vessel is its liquefied natural gas propulsion system, which delivers substantial environmental improvements over conventional fuel engines.

The LNG configuration achieves reductions of 25 to 30% in COâ‚‚ emissions, 85% in NOx emissions and up to 98% in SOx emissions, aligning with the port’s commitment to sustainable and environmentally responsible operations.

Su Xudong, CEO of Piraeus Port Authority, described the arrival of modern next-generation vessels as a reinforcement of Piraeus’s strategic position as a vehicle transport hub in the broader region, and framed the partnership as consistent with the port’s orientation toward innovation, technological development and reduced environmental impact.

The cooperation further consolidates the role of the Port of Piraeus in the international vehicle supply chain, adding a major global RoRo operator to its network of maritime partnerships.
