Peel Ports joins Aluminium Federation to boost UK Metals

Peel Ports Group has become the first UK port operator to join the Aluminium Federation (ALFED), reinforcing its commitment to the steel and metals sector. The move comes as the group looks to expand its role in the aluminium market, following a record-breaking year for steel imports at the Port of Liverpool.

ALFED, a non-profit trade body, supports the UK aluminium industry. Peel Ports said joining the federation will help it offer more efficient and sustainable supply chain solutions for aluminium importers. The group already works with customers to move cargoes closer to demand centers, reducing road miles and cutting carbon emissions through coastal and short-sea shipping.

David Huck, Chief Operating Officer at Peel Ports, said the partnership reflects the group’s strategy to support key sectors with smarter port-centric logistics. “We look forward to working with ALFED and its members to unlock new opportunities for trade, growth, and further investment in our ports,” he said.

Nadine Bloxsome, ALFED CEO, welcomed Peel Ports’ membership. “Their operational knowledge of port infrastructure and logistics adds real value, especially as sustainable supply chains become a growing priority,” she noted.

Peel Ports already handles significant volumes of steel, aluminium, and other metals across its UK and Irish Sea network. Last year, steel imports at Liverpool surged over 35% year-on-year, highlighting strong demand for port solutions that deliver connectivity, resilience, and value.
