Pasha Hawaii’s new green container ship visits Long Beach

Janet Marie, the latest green container vessel in Pasha Hawaii’s fleet, arrived in the Port of Long Beach, California, US. Janet Marie, the company’s second of two “Ohana Class” container ships powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), made its maiden voyage early Saturday from Long Beach to its home port in Honolulu.

“These ships symbolise the best of American ingenuity and shipbuilding,” stated George Pasha, president and CEO of Pasha Hawaii.

Pasha Hawaii’s George III was the first LNG container ship to refuel on the West Coast on its inaugural stop at the Port of Long Beach in August 2022.

Janet Marie exceeds the International Maritime Organization’s 2030 emission criteria for ocean vessels by running entirely on natural gas, making it the most technologically sophisticated and ecologically friendly vessel to service Hawaii and one of many that serve Long Beach.

“Pasha Hawaii’s newest container ship represents our move toward a cleaner future for this Port, our community, and the supply chain,” stated Mario Cordero, CEO at Port of Long Beach.

Furthermore, the vessel also saves energy thanks to a cutting-edge engine, an optimised hull form, and an underwater propulsion system with a high-efficiency rudder and propeller.
