Operaciones Portuarias Canarias S.A. (OPCSA) has ordered four additional diesel-hybrid Rubber-Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes from Konecranes. The order was booked in Q1 2026, with delivery scheduled for Q4 2026.
The new units build on OPCSA’s 2025 investment in eight hybrid RTGs. Once delivered, the terminal will operate a total of 18 Konecranes RTGs.
OPCSA operates a major container terminal at the Port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The company continues to modernize its equipment to handle growing volumes while improving efficiency and reducing emissions.
The hybrid RTGs capture and reuse energy generated during lifting operations. This reduces fuel consumption, lowers emissions, and cuts operating costs compared to conventional diesel-powered cranes.
OPCSA selected the new cranes to strengthen yard performance while advancing sustainability goals. The machines also include safety features such as an Anti-Truck Lift Prevention System and a gas-based fire prevention system.
The order supports Konecranes’ Ecolifting initiative, which promotes step-by-step decarbonization of port operations. The program includes solutions ranging from hybrid systems to fully electric and future hydrogen-powered equipment.
With this expansion, OPCSA reinforces its focus on efficient, safe, and environmentally responsible container handling.
