OOCL introduces sixth eco-friendly 24,000+ TEU vessel

Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) named a 24,188 TEU newbuilding at the Dalian COSCO KHI Ship Engineering (DACKS) shipyard.

OOCL Gdynia is the name of this huge container ship. Following its naming, OOCL has received half of the company’s twelve sustainable 24,000 TEU class series vessels ordered in 2020.

OOCL stated it was honoured to have Takashi Yanai, corporate officer and general manager of Sumitomo Corporation’s Logistics Infrastructure Business Division, as the ceremony’s guest of honour, and Yoshiko Yanai, Takashi Yanai’s mother, as the vessel sponsor to name and bless the new vessel.

OOCL Gdynia will be deployed on the OOCL’s Asia-Europe LL3 loop line, which has the following port rotation: Shanghai (China), Xiamen (China), Nansha (China), Hong Kong (China), Yantian (China), Cai Mep (Vietnam), Singapore (Asia), Piraeus (Greece), Hamburg (Germany), Rotterdam, (Netherlands), Zeebrugge (Belgium), Valencia (Spain), Abu Dhabi (UAE), Port Kelang (Malaysia), and Shanghai (China).

“Equipped with the latest technology and green features, this series of new vessels will gradually upgrade OOCL’s existing fleet. This not only can fulfil our customers and the public expectations of energy saving and carbon reduction but also shows OOCL’s determination to stay at the forefront of industry development,” commented Teddy Fung, director of trades at OOCL.
