Onne Port opens new in-gate facility

APM Terminals-operated West Africa Container Terminal (WACT) anticipates a significant enhancement in efficiency and security with the official inauguration of a new four-lane in-gate facility at Onne Port, Rivers State, Nigeria.

This development closely follows the establishment of a new on-terminal container freight station (CFS), reflecting WACT’s ongoing investment to position itself as the primary gateway to Eastern Nigeria and beyond.

Part of WACT’s extensive US$115 million terminal upgrade project, the new in-gate is expected to offer a comprehensive range of logistics solutions aimed at empowering Nigerian businesses and bolstering overall port efficiency, aligning with the Federal Government’s efforts to streamline ease of doing business in the country.

Moreover, the introduction of WACT’s new in-gate aligns with the Nigerian Port Authorities’ recent introduction of a new port road segment, underscoring a collective commitment to enhancing infrastructure within the port.

“The new gate will improve access and security; facilitate faster cargo movement; and reduce truck turnaround times to under 45 minutes,” commented Jeethu Jose, managing director of WACT.

The addition of the new in-gate, coupled with WACT’s Truck Appointment System (TAS), enables quicker booking and processing of imports, exports, and empty container drop-offs. This streamlined process, alongside advanced information submission and verification, is expected to lead to reduced congestion and enhanced truck turnaround times, which will result in cost reductions and increased operational efficiency.
