ONE, PIL announce new intra-Asia service

Ocean Network Express (ONE) and Pacific International Lines (PIL) have announced the launch of the new Korea China Straits 2 (KCS2) service.

The new service will commence from the port of Pusan on 6 July with the following rotation:

Pusan (South Korea) – Kwangyang (South Korea) – Shanghai (China) – Sekou (China) – Singapore – Port Klang (Malaysia) –Penang (Malaysia) – Singapore – Cat Lai (Vietnam) – Nansha (Guangzhou) – Pusan

The new service will be served by a consortium of vessels with an average capacity of 1,800-2,200 TEUs.

ONE said KCS2 will provide direct service to Penang and Cat Lai, which has good access to the Ho Chi Minh City market. “This is also a service enhancement from the current PF1 and VSS which ONE connects to Penang and Cat Lai respectively via Singapore,” noted ONE in a statement.

Surendran Mathilagath, PIL’s head of intra-Asia services, commented, “The key feature of this new service is its extensive connections to nine key ports linking five countries in Asia. This comprehensive coverage on a single service enables us to deliver efficient transit times and offer attractive rates for the benefit of our customers. In addition, our customers in these five countries can enjoy stronger linkages to the rest of the world.”
