NYK unveils seventh LNG-powered pure car and truck carrier

Tadotsu Shipyard, a member of the Imabari Shipbuilding Group, delivered the LNG-fuelled pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) Sweet Pea Leader to NYK on 26 October.

NYK ordered the vessel from Nihon Shipyard, and it is the company’s eighth LNG-fueled PCTC. NYK will launch a total of 20 additional LNG-fueled PCTCs by 2028 as a bridging solution to achieve net-zero GHG emissions for the NYK Group’s oceangoing companies by 2050.

The vessel, like NYK’s other LNG-fuelled PCTCs, was named after flowers to realise and pass on a healthy global environment through environmentally friendly transportation.

According to a statement, NYK has created the brand “Sail GREEN” to highlight the company’s efforts to minimise GHG emissions through the transportation of goods and contribute to the eco-friendly supply chains of customers, regardless of the mode of transport (e.g., by sea or land, through terminals, etc.).

Completion of this vessel is an initiative of that brand.
