The Port of New York and New Jersey welcomed a delegation from the Port of Tokyo earlier this month to celebrate the 45th anniversary of their long-standing sister port partnership.
The milestone event took place on July 7, as Port Director Bethann Rooney and Director General Akira Tanaka came together to renew their commitment by signing a new Sister Port Joint Statement.
Before the formal signing ceremony, the Tokyo delegation, which included representatives from the Bureau of Port and Harbor, Tokyo Port Terminal Co., and several other port-related associations, toured Port Liberty Bayonne and Cape Liberty Cruise Port.
The visit provided both sides with an opportunity to reflect on their achievements over the past four and a half decades and identify new ways to tackle common challenges in the future.

The renewed agreement encourages both ports to explore strategies that improve operational efficiency, promote sustainable practices, and enhance international marketing efforts. The statement also emphasizes the importance of sharing best practices and building mutual appreciation across their respective port communities.
