NWSA sees improved container traffic in February

The Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA), comprising the ports of Seattle and Tacoma, has reported a container volume increase of 11.1% year-on-year in February, handling 298,046 TEU in its terminals.

During the same period, imports grew by 18.6% compared to February of 2021, totalling 129,839 TEU, with full import volumes reaching an all-time high of 113,026 TEU, which was mainly driven by persistent consumer demand and retail inventory restocking.

Meanwhile, exports represented a rise of 6.7% year-on-year, to 115,057 TEU, according to NWSA’s data, and domestic volumes also saw a slight increase of 1%.

During the first two months of 2022, the US ports handled a total of 570,328 TEU, which translates to an increase of 2.3% over the corresponding period of the previous year.

Among them, imports rose 8.3%, while exports declined 3.2% year-on-year, to 249,384 TEU and 218,954 TEU, respectively.
