NWSA ends 2025 with Q4 volume recovery trend

The Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA) closed 2025 with total container volumes of 3.16 million TEUs, down 5.5% year-on-year, as tariffs and high retail inventories weighed on trade flows.

Full imports fell 10.3%, while full exports declined 4.9% for the year.

In December 2025, volumes reached 237,922 TEUs, down 21.9% compared to December 2024. Full international imports dropped 25.3%, while exports declined 14.8%.

Despite the annual decline, NWSA reported steady recovery in the fourth quarter. December volumes increased 1.1% from November, while November rose 8.8% from October. Exports also trended up, with December up 4.7% month-on-month and November up 6.1%.

NWSA said the improvement signals growing momentum heading into 2026.
