The Port of Antwerp has announced that the construction works of a new truck parking lot for the port area on the left bank of Scheldt will start on 19 April.
The major Belgian port will invest US$7 million on the new Parking Ketenis, which will have 280 parking places with all the necessary facilities for truckers with the capability to expand with space for another 90 lorries.
[s2If is_user_logged_in()]According to the announcement, truckers will find sufficient and regularly maintained sanitary facilities, showers, WiFi connection, and vending machines with drinks and food.
In addition, there will be a new car park, which will serve as an overflow car park if the queues at one or more terminals become too long. It will be located between the Ketenislaan and the Scheldt, just north of the Kallo lock and will open in the spring of 2022.
The car park is lit and separated from the road by a fence, while the number of free places is included in the same app as the car parks along the Flemish motorways. Additionally, the car park will have an awning with solar panels to generate its own electricity.
Furthermore, on the Beverse Dijk, south of Kallo, there will be a reed zone of 28,000m² and 4,200m² so-called “harrier-friendly crops”, for example crops in which the harrier can forage. Environmental compensation will be installed on the outside of the buffer dike flank, which compensates for the construction of the car park.
The project for the Ketenis car park the upgrade of the truck parking on the right bank (Goordijk) is supported by the European fund “Connecting Europe Facility”.
