Northport in New Zealand has received two new reach-stacker container handlers, as part of its US$8 million investment for the infrastructure needed to support the elevated port’s throughput.
“We’ve had to rise to the unexpected challenges presented by recent unplanned and large-scale container traffic, with the bare minimum of equipment,” stated the port.
“Now we expect container traffic through Northport to keep growing so the time is right to expand our container-handling, receipt and dispatch capability,” explained a representative.
The New Zealander port will also buy a new dock truck and MAFI trailer, simulation training equipment, in order to extend the container storage area and enhance safety during 24-hour operations.
“All of this will enhance substantially our container-handling ability, demonstrating our commitment to growing container traffic through Northport to service the trade needs of both our region and north Auckland,” claimed the Northport’s Authority.
