New Côte d’Ivoire Terminal receives first fully electric equipment

Côte d’Ivoire Terminal (CIT) received six electric fleet gantry cranes and 14 electric terminal tractors. The new equipment comes after the delivery of six electric gantry cranes earlier in June.

Therefore, the terminal is on track to be operational in November this year. The new Côte d’Ivoire Terminal will be the second container terminal at the Port of Abidjan, built and operated by a Bolloré Ports and APM Terminals consortium.

The fleet gantry cranes are 30 meters high and will be used for loading, unloading and storing containers in the box yard.

The new equipment, provided by ZPMC, is equipped with the latest technologies, including a control system and a new generation power supply system that significantly reduces CO2 emissions and energy consumption.

The 14 tractors that arrived at the terminal in April were the first of 36 APM 75T HE 100% electric tractors, 24 Powerpacks and six charging stations supplied by GAUSSIN.

“On completion, all six gantry cranes, 13 fleet gantries and 36 tractors will be fully electric. This is part of the eco-responsible approach implemented for this project,” said Koen De Backker, managing director of Côte d’Ivoire Terminal.

“In addition to buildings that meet the highest environmental standards, the equipment at the terminal conforms with standards outlined in the Green Terminal environmental labelling process created by Bolloré Ports and validated by Bureau Veritas,” he noted.

The delivery of this equipment is an important step in improving the logistics services in Côte d’Ivoire and the countries of the sub-region. With a total investment of US$420 million (CFA 262 billion), the second terminal at the port of Abidjan will increase the port capacity by 1.5 million containers per year.

With an area of 375,000 m²​​, this new container terminal will be able to accommodate ships with draughts of up to 16 meters along its 1,100 meters of quays.
