Several shipowners have placed newbuilding orders for container vessels across Chinese shipyards, reflecting continued investment in feeder and mid-sized tonnage, according to Dynaliners.
German shipowner Peter Döhle is reported to have contracted Chengxi Shipyard for two 3,100 TEU vessels. The units are priced at approximately USD 48 million each and are scheduled for delivery in 2029.
Greek owner Venergy Maritime has also expanded its fleet programme, ordering two additional 1,900 TEU vessels from Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard. This brings its total orderbook in this segment to six units, with deliveries expected through 2029. Each vessel is estimated to cost around USD 30 million.
Athens-based non-operating owner Erasmus Shipinvest Group has signed a contract for two 1,800 TEU vessels at CSSC Guangzhou Huangpu Wenchong, with options in place for two additional units. The vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2028.
In China, Jiangyin-based Changhong Shipping is entering the container segment with an order for a single 1,100 TEU vessel from Ningbo Penghong Shipbuilding Heavy Industries. The vessel is expected to be delivered in early 2027.
Meanwhile, Zhonggu Logistics is planning a larger investment, with up to ten 1,800 TEU containerships expected to be contracted at the recently revived Wuhan Qingshan Shipyard. The vessels are slated for delivery between 2028 and 2029, with each unit priced at approximately USD 39.2 million.
The series of orders highlights sustained demand for smaller and mid-sized containerships, particularly for regional and intra-Asia trades, as operators continue to renew and expand their fleets.
