MSC vessel suffers deep gash after collision with pier in Turkey

The 2017-built MSC Tina crashed into a pier of Marport in Istanbul on 27 March, during its docking manoeuvre in Ambarli, according to Turkey’s General Directorate of Maritime Affairs, with MSC confirming that its container ship has been briefly impacted by the collision incident while berthing at the port.

[s2If is_user_logged_in()]The collision has caused a severe gash down the side of the 19,224TEU vessel’s hull, while the pier at Istanbul’s Marport complex has also been significantly damaged, said the Turkish authority.

An MSC spokesperson told Container News that after a thorough survey, the Liberia-flagged ship is undergoing cargo discharge operations at Marport port before proceeding to Asyaport in Tekirdag to complete the discharge of cargo for import and transhipment in Turkey.

In addition, “Yarimca export cargo which is currently onboard will be discharged at Asyaport for further transhipment,” added the company’s representative.

Both MSC and Turkey’s General Directorate of Maritime Affairs have reported no injuries or environmental pollution.
