MSC updates freight rates for Sri Lanka and Bangladesh to Europe

Sri Lanka and Bangladesh

MSC has announced new freight rates for cargo moving from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh to European hubs. These rates apply from March 1, 2026, until March 31, 2026. Consequently, the carrier is updating its pricing for the Antwerp and Valencia trade lanes to reflect current market conditions.

The new rates for Colombo departures are set at USD 1,550 for 20-foot containers. Furthermore, both 40-foot and 45-foot high cube dry containers will cost USD 1,850. For shipments from Chattogram, the 20-foot rate remains USD 1,550. However, the fee for 40-foot and high cube containers increases to USD 2,350.

These prices cover the base ocean freight and several primary surcharges. Specifically, they include origin terminal handling, piracy risk, and emission control area fees. However, several additional costs still apply to these shipments.

For instance, dry containers carry a Bunker Recovery Charge of USD 170 per TEU. Additionally, shippers must pay USD 88 for the Emissions Trading System and USD 17 for Fuel EU per TEU. Carrier Security Fees also vary by origin, costing USD 11 from Colombo and USD 13 from Chattogram.

Destination-specific charges apply at the ports of Antwerp and Valencia. For example, Antwerp requires a EUR 230 terminal handling charge and a EUR 20 security fee. Meanwhile, Valencia charges EUR 248 for destination terminal handling.

These FAK rates exclude high-value goods and all IMO category commodities. Therefore, customers should consult with local MSC agents for details on other container types or specific port pairs. Finally, local and contingency charges may apply beyond the listed tariffs.
