MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company has announced an updated Emergency Fuel Surcharge (EFS) for shipments from Asia to the United States and Canada, citing ongoing disruptions in global fuel markets linked to developments in the Middle East.
The carrier said rising marine fuel prices and reduced bunker availability at traditional sourcing locations have increased operational costs and procurement challenges across its network.
As a result, MSC will revise the EFS previously announced on 11 March 2026, with the updated charges taking effect from 1 May 2026 (based on gate-in date) until further notice.
For shipments from Asia to the U.S. and Canada East Coast, the surcharge will be set at USD 322 for 20-foot dry containers, USD 644 for 40-foot containers, USD 815 for 45-foot high cube containers, USD 483 for 20-foot reefers and USD 966 for 40-foot reefers.
For cargo bound for the U.S. and Canada West Coast, the EFS will be USD 234 for 20-foot dry containers, USD 467 for 40-foot containers, USD 591 for 45-foot high cube containers, USD 351 for 20-foot reefers and USD 701 for 40-foot reefers.
MSC said the adjustment is intended to offset increased operating costs while ensuring continued service reliability amid ongoing market volatility.
