MEDLOG, the logistics arm of the MSC Group, has signed a concession agreement to operate the Pangaon Inland Container Terminal (PICT), marking a significant step in enhancing Bangladesh’s inland logistics network and overall trade efficiency.

The MSC Group said the investment reflects its long-term confidence in Bangladesh’s role as an emerging gateway for South Asian trade. “As a world leader in container shipping, serving over 500 ports and investing in more than 100 terminals globally, our investment in the Pangaon Inland Container Terminal reflects our belief that Bangladesh has the potential to become one of South Asia’s major gateways for regional and global trade,” said Soren Toft, CEO of MSC.

Moreover, located near Dhaka on the Buriganga River and close to the Dhaka–Mawa–Bhanga Expressway, PICT is positioned to take pressure off congested road corridors by shifting more freight toward low-emission inland waterways.

MSC noted that this shift will help strengthen supply chain resilience, improve cargo flow and support the country’s industrial growth.

Additonally, under the new concession, MEDLOG will manage terminal operations, supply systems and automation upgrades, applying global best practices to improve inland cargo handling.

The terminal will also be expanded to support annual throughput of 160,000 TEUs. To enhance multimodal links, MEDLOG plans to charter inland barges from PICT, improving connectivity between Pangaon, other river terminals and seaports.

“At MEDLOG, we firmly believe that inland container traffic plays a pivotal role in building efficient, sustainable supply chains. By investing in river terminals, barge links and multimodal infrastructure, we aim to reduce congestion, cut emissions and support our customers’ growth,” said Salvatore Prudente, Executive Director of MEDLOG.

The company added that its goal is to deliver reliable inland connectivity that benefits trade, the environment and local communities across Bangladesh.
