MSC expands Koala service to Melbourne

MSC will extend its China–Indonesia–Australia Koala service to include Melbourne, further strengthening its presence in the Australia–Asia trade. The carrier will also increase the number of ships deployed on the service from six to seven, with an average capacity of 3,000 TEU.

The updated route will call at Shanghai, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Fremantle, Adelaide, Jakarta, and back to Shanghai. This adjustment provides shippers with more direct options for cargo movement between Asia and Australia, improving transit times and reliability.

The Koala service, known for connecting key ports in China and Indonesia with Australia, has been a vital route for exporters and importers in the region. With this expansion, MSC aims to enhance operational efficiency and support growing trade demand across the Asia–Australia corridor.

By adding Melbourne, the carrier also increases flexibility for customers seeking multiple port options in Australia, while maintaining consistent schedules and service quality along the established route.
