
MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company has announced new Freight All Kinds (FAK) rates for shipments from Far East ports to destinations across Sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian Ocean.
The revised rates apply to cargo originating from ports across the Far East, including Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asia. The new pricing will take effect from 22 March 2026 and remain valid until 29 March 2026.
Under the new rate structure, shipments from the Far East to Nigeria in West Africa will be priced at USD 5,200 for 20-foot containers and USD 6,200 for 40-foot high-cube containers.
For other West African base ports, the rate will be set at USD 4,350 per 20-foot container and USD 5,500 for 40-foot high-cube units.
Cargo moving to South Africa will be charged USD 3,700 for 20-foot containers and USD 4,700 for 40-foot high-cube containers.
For shipments to East Africa, including Mombasa, the rate will be USD 3,550 per 20-foot container and USD 4,750 for 40-foot high-cube containers.
Shipments destined for Mozambique will be priced at USD 4,350 per 20-foot container and USD 6,550 for 40-foot high-cube containers.
For the Somali port of Berbera, the announced rate will be USD 4,850 for 20-foot containers and USD 7,000 for 40-foot high-cube containers.
Cargo bound for Port Louis in Mauritius will be charged USD 3,650 per 20-foot container and USD 4,550 for 40-foot high-cube containers.
MSC noted that the announced figures represent all-in FAK rates but remain subject to applicable surcharges and local charges at both origin and destination.
