
MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company has announced new Freight All Kinds (FAK) rates for shipments from Far East ports to Northern Europe, the Mediterranean and the Black Sea, effective from 22 March 2026.
The new pricing applies to cargo originating from ports across the Far East, including Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asia, and will remain in effect until further notice, but no later than 29 March 2026.
According to MSC, the updated base rates for shipments from the Far East to Northern Europe will be set at USD 2,820 for 20-foot containers and USD 4,700 for 40-foot and high-cube containers.
For shipments to the Western Mediterranean and Adriatic regions, the new FAK rate will be USD 4,600 per 20-foot container and USD 6,200 per 40-foot or high-cube container.
Cargo moving to the Eastern Mediterranean will be priced at USD 4,500 per 20-foot container and USD 6,200 per 40-foot or high-cube container.
Rates to the Black Sea will be set at USD 4,550 per 20-foot container and USD 6,300 for 40-foot and high-cube containers.
MSC has also announced specific rates for North African destinations. Shipments to Algeria will be priced at USD 6,350 for 20-foot containers and USD 8,700 for 40-foot and high-cube containers. Rates to Libya will be USD 6,050 and USD 8,300 respectively.
For Morocco (Casablanca), the new rate will be USD 5,250 per 20-foot container and USD 7,200 per 40-foot or high-cube container. Shipments to Tunisia will be priced at USD 6,050 for 20-foot containers and USD 8,300 for 40-foot and high-cube containers.
MSC noted that the announced figures represent base port-to-base port ocean freight rates. Shipments to out-ports remain subject to standard terminal add-on origin and destination charges.
The rates include the base ocean freight component as well as the Global Fuel Surcharge (GFS), set at VATOS USD 54 per TEU for March 2026.
They also include the Emission Control Area (ECA) surcharge, which is set at VATOS USD 15 per TEU for Mediterranean and Northern European destinations such as Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Ireland, Belgium, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and France. A VATOS USD 52 per TEU ECA surcharge applies to other Nordic and Baltic destinations.
In addition, the rates remain subject to a Carbon Limitation Surcharge (CLS) of VATOS USD 20 per TEU and a Carbon Review Surcharge (CRS) of VATOS USD 78 per TEU for Northern Europe and VATOS USD 115 per TEU for Mediterranean destinations.
The carrier noted that the announced FAK rates exclude all cargo classified under IMO dangerous goods categories as well as high-value commodities.
