MSC announces new FAK rates from Far East to Sub-Saharan Africa and Indian Ocean

MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company has announced new Freight All Kinds (FAK) rates for cargo moving from all Far East ports, including ports in Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia, to Sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian Ocean.

The new rates will take effect from 1 March 2026 and will remain valid until further notice, but not beyond 15 March 2026.

Under the revised pricing, shipments to West Africa, including Nigeria, will be charged USD 4,100 per 20-foot dry container and USD 5,100 per 40-foot dry or high-cube container. For West Africa base ports, the rates are set at USD 3,250 per 20-foot container and USD 4,400 per 40-foot container.

For South Africa, MSC has set rates at USD 2,800 per 20-foot container and USD 3,800 per 40-foot container. Cargo moving to East Africa via Mombasa will be charged USD 2,650 per 20-foot container and USD 3,850 per 40-foot container.

Shipments destined for Mozambique will be subject to rates of USD 2,950 per 20-foot container and USD 4,650 per 40-foot container, while cargo to Somalia via Berbera will be charged USD 3,950 per 20-foot container and USD 6,100 per 40-foot container.

For the Indian Ocean, shipments to Port Louis will be charged USD 2,750 per 20-foot container and USD 3,650 per 40-foot container.

MSC noted that the above FAK rates are all-in but remain subject to applicable surcharges and local charges at both origin and destination, including VATOS.
