
Mozambique’s shipping industry finds itself at a critical crossroads, balancing modest growth against significant operational challenges while facing mounting security threats from insurgent activity in its northern provinces.
The country’s ports handled 70.17 million tonnes of cargo in 2024, achieving 10.7% growth that outpaced the global container demand increase of 7.1%. Nacala port grew by 13.6%, while Beira expanded 12.9%, offsetting a slight decline in Maputo, the capital’s primary port facility.
