Morocco is strategically positioning itself as a key maritime hub in 2025, capitalizing on global shipping rerouting and regional tensions to enhance its role in international trade.
Ongoing tensions, such as conflicts in the Middle East or restrictions in alternative routes like the Suez or Panama Canals, have led to rerouting of Asia–U.S. East Coast cargo, allowing Moroccan ports to capitalize on this.
In the first half of 2024, transshipment activities at Moroccan ports surged by 17.8%, reaching 55.6 million tons, highlighting Morocco’s growing role in redistributing global cargo flows.
