MOL to equip its vessels with ammonia-fuelled main engine

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with MAN Energy Solutions (MAN ES) and Mitsui E&S Machinery to order ammonia fuelled main engine which is currently under development by MAN ES and will equip the Japanese company’s ships.

Ammonia is considered a next-generation clean fuel while it does not emit carbon dioxide.

MOL addresses environmental issues in accordance with the ‘MOL Group Environmental Vision 2.1’ and continually strives to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050 and to deploy net-zero emissions ocean-going vessels within the 2020s, according to a company’s statement.

With the order of ammonia fuelled main engine, MOL aims to contribute to the realisation of a decarbonised society.
