MOL Charisma cargo condition still unknown

Undamaged cargo on the MOL Charisma, which suffered a cargo fire on 1 September off Sri Lanka, remains on board the vessel while the carrier and its partners decide how to deal with the containers.

The condition of the cargo is unknown at this moment, as the investigation will commence once the fire is completely extinguished.

A MOL spokesperson told Container News, “the affected cargo hold temperature remains the same as other cargo holds, and there is no sign of a temperature increase.”

The company representative could not comment about the plan for unaffected cargo, as the whole service plan will be developed jointly by MOL and PS3 service provider, Ocean Network Express (ONE).

The vessel is currently positioned off the port of Colombo with the fire remaining under control. At the same time, all crew members are safe and secure, according to the Japanese shipping company, while no sea pollution has been reported.
