Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company (MGC) announced the successful delivery of a state-of-the-art dual-fuel methanol carrier, chartered from Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), on a long-term basis.
The vessel was delivered by HD Hyundai Mipo Dockyard on May 30, following a naming ceremony held on May 23, where MGC Chairman Masashi Fujii officially christened the ship Kohzan Maru VII.
The 47,960-deadweight-ton vessel is equipped with a Hyundai-Man B&W 6G50ME-C9.6-LGIM electronically controlled dual-fuel engine, capable of operating on methanol—recognized as a next-generation, low-carbon marine fuel—as well as conventional marine fuels.
MGC and MOL have long been pioneers in advancing maritime transport solutions. With the introduction of this cutting-edge dual-fuel vessel, both companies reaffirm their commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility.
“This vessel embodies our continued efforts to lead the way toward carbon neutrality through cleaner, safer, and more efficient marine transport,” both companies noted in a joint statement.
Kohzan Maru VII is expected to play a critical role in supporting global supply chains while contributing to the broader transition to low-emission maritime operations.
