Medlog launches new block train service

Medlog has launched a new block train service linking the Georgian Black Sea ports of Poti and Batumi with the Tbilisi Dry Port, in cooperation with GR Logistics and Terminals. This new inland freight corridor provides a seamless connection between Georgia’s maritime gateways and its capital, offering customers a faster, more reliable, and more sustainable logistics solution.

Previously, rail transport along this route required up to three days of transit time. With the introduction of dedicated freight trains, containers can now reach Tbilisi in approximately 13 hours, significantly improving efficiency and predictability.

“The launch of dedicated block trains from Poti enhances reliability and speed for our customers, connecting inland destinations more efficiently,” said Mukhran Dekanadze, Managing Director of Medlog Poti.

The service currently operates four trains per week, each with a capacity of around 60 TEU. The Poti Medlog Depot, covering ten hectares, serves as the operational hub for block train activities and includes bonded areas, reefer facilities, warehouse space, and full stripping and stuffing capabilities. Trains arriving in Tbilisi are handled at the Tbilisi Dry Port, where Medlog manages first and last-mile deliveries using its own fleet of 70 trucks to ensure seamless door-to-door service.

By shifting freight from road to rail, the new service not only increases capacity and reliability for containerised imports but also helps reduce CO₂ emissions in line with EU and national sustainability objectives. The launch strengthens Medlog’s and MSC’s shared commitment to developing Georgia’s intermodal infrastructure and supporting the country’s growing role in regional trade connectivity.
