MarTrust, part of Marcura and a leading crew payments provider serving over 150,000 seafarers, has partnered with the International Seafarers’ Welfare and Assistance Network (ISWAN), a global non-profit offering 24/7 helplines and welfare resources for seafarers and their families.
The partnership aims to boost awareness and access to mental health and financial wellbeing support across the maritime industry.
Data and insight for stronger crew welfare
MarTrust’s financial contribution will support ISWAN’s welfare and outreach programs, including a new Power BI Dashboard that consolidates helpline data on key wellbeing themes such as financial stress, fatigue, isolation, and contract issues. This tool will help shipowners and managers better understand crew pressures and take proactive steps to support them.
Accessible support for seafarers
ISWAN’s multilingual helplines assist thousands of seafarers each year, offering practical and emotional guidance on financial worries, family concerns, stress, and sometimes crisis situations. To improve access, ISWAN’s resources will now be available through the MarTrust crew app, giving seafarers an easy route to reliable support while at sea.
A shared commitment
“We take around 450 new contacts each month, but that’s just a fraction of those who could benefit from our help,” said Simon Grainge, CEO of ISWAN. “By partnering with MarTrust, we can reach more crew digitally and connect them to the right help when they need it most.”

“Financial worries are a leading cause of anxiety for crew,” added Stuart Gregory, CEO of MarTrust. “This partnership combines our digital platform with ISWAN’s expertise to make a real difference in seafarer wellbeing worldwide.”

Building a long-term alliance
Both organisations see this as the start of a broader collaboration. Future plans include scaling awareness of welfare resources, co-developing digital wellbeing tools, and deepening industry engagement through shared data insights.
