Maersk vessel faces fire incident in Greek waters

The 4,250 TEU container ship Luna Maersk faced a fire incident during an intra-Greek voyage from the port of Piraeus to Thessaloniki.

According to Greek coastguards, one container caught fire onboard late on 2 October when Luna Maersk was in the Aegean Sea, 12.5 nautical miles (23.2km) north of the island of Kea.

Although the crew members of the vessel managed to control the fire, the boxship returned to Piraeus for further assistance.

The bill of lading of the container that caught fire mentioned that the box included a used electric vehicle, according to Greek media.
